News of the day:
Construction has commenced!! As of Thursday 5th October, the fences have gone up and demolition work has commenced on the manse. After three years of planning and waiting, the moment has arrived that the physical transformation is ocurring to turn this space beside our Tuncurry Chapel into The Margaret Jurd College. The school has been trying to engage local builders etc in every step of the construction, though some hurdles have been encountered in this ambition, simply because there is so much building happening both in town and the surrounding district.
We are so excited about that our dream is coming to fruition, not just from a church perspective but on what this school can offer our community. Focussed solely on meeting the needs of children who have fallen through the cracks of mainstream education, the college boasts a wonderful array of social workers and case workers to support the students reach their highest potential. Initially planned for years 9 - 10, the school realizes that each students path has, and will continue ot be unique and therefore their programmes for each child are individually tailored to that student's needs.
Both our congregation and the college are eally excited about offering this type of education to some of our communities most fragile children.
The head teacher for this campus has been appointed, and as such Josh Field and his family have moved into the area just prior to the July school holidays. Josh has been introducing himself to various interested parties and stakeholders and as the construction progresses Josh will become more prominent in and around town.
Referrals for both new teaching staff and students are now open with information on the MJC website.
More information will be available through various media forums as news and developments occur.
